Fatigue and mental health
When the answer is more than medication
Chronic Fatigue and Mental Health
You are exhausted in a way that sleep does not fix. You are anxious, or flat, or both. You may be on medication that takes the edge off but has not resolved the underlying problem. Or you have been told your bloods are normal and there is nothing medically wrong.
Mark Webster's integrative approach starts with a different question: not 'what medication will manage this?' but 'what is driving it, and can we address that directly?'
The biochemical basis of fatigue and mood disorders
Many presentations of fatigue, anxiety, and depression have a nutritional or biochemical component. Deficiencies in B vitamins (particularly B12, B6, and folate), magnesium, zinc, iron, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids are directly linked to mood and energy regulation. Thyroid dysfunction, adrenal fatigue, blood sugar dysregulation, and gut microbiome disruption all have significant effects on mental health and energy.
This does not mean medication is wrong. It means that medication alone, without addressing the underlying nutritional and biochemical environment, is managing a symptom rather than resolving a cause.
Conditions Mark works with:
Chronic fatigue and persistent low energy
Anxiety and panic
Depression, including treatment-resistant depression
Brain fog and poor concentration
Burnout
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS), supported alongside appropriate medical care
Adrenal fatigue and HPA axis dysregulation
Sleep disorders with a biochemical or hormonal component
Mood disorders linked to nutritional deficiency
What Mark will assess
Mark will take a detailed history of your energy and mood patterns, sleep, stress, diet, medication history, and any previous diagnoses. He will assess nutritional status, thyroid function, blood sugar regulation, and the role of gut health in your presentation.
He will look at your current medication profile, not to change it without medical involvement, but to identify any nutritional depletions that medications may be causing, and whether supplement support can improve your response to existing treatment.
For patients with anxiety, Mark has a particular interest in the role of magnesium, NAC (N-acetylcysteine), B vitamins, and zinc in supporting the nervous system. He will advise carefully on any supplements that may interact with antidepressants or anti-anxiety medication, and will not recommend anything that could compromise your existing treatment.
Working alongside your mental health team
Mark does not replace your GP, psychiatrist, or psychologist. He works alongside them. His role is to identify the nutritional, hormonal, and biochemical factors that may be limiting your recovery, and to support those areas in a way that complements your existing care.
If you are currently on antidepressants, anti-anxiety medication, or other psychiatric medication, please bring a full medication list to your consultation. This is essential for safe and effective advice.
